14th International Commercial Vehicle Show COMTRANS 2017 took place in Moscow.
The organizers of the COMTRANS International Commercial Vehicle Show were ITEMF Expo and OAR (Association of Russian Automakers). The exhibition is included in the official calendar of the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) and is held biennially on odd-number years. It is the leading fair for commercial vehicles in Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe. COMTRANS is supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industries of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation and the Association of European Businesses (AEB).
The show started on 4 September with Press/VIP day during which the largest manufacturers such as GAZ Group, KAMAZ, MAZ, UAZ, Daimler Kamaz RUS/FUSO, Mercedes-Benz RUS, Ford, Hyundai Truck&Bus RUS, Volkswagen, Isuzu RUS, MAN Truck & Bus RUS, Volvo Trucks, Renault Trucks, Scania RUS, DAF Trucks RUS, Iveco Russia, FAW, Schmitz Cargobull, KOGEL Trailer RUS exhibited recent developments of commercial vehicles as well as integrated solutions for operating, control and maintenance of equipment.
The show was visited by the representatives of more than 300 Russian periodicals, business press, federal TV-channels as well as by leading foreign journalists from 16 countries.
The Show opening ceremony was on 5 September.

Russian and foreign manufacturers exhibited a large number of novelties at their stands:
KAMAZ traditionally took a major part in COMTRANS`17, and the truck KAMAZ -54901 with new design cabin К5 became the main opening of the year. Also the newest KAMAZ trucks of the advanced KAMAZ-5490 NEO line and its gas/diesel modification were presented at the stand, as well as KAMAZ-54909 with add-on front wheel hydraulic drive, hybrid truck KAMAZ-65208 with a garbage removal upper structure and others. Also the second generation electrobus KAMAZ with new interior and exterior, an ultrafast charging station for such buses, autonomous vehicles, buses, dump trucks and a wide choice of special-purpose vehicles were showed. The visitors of the show also could see an entirely new type of KAMAZ engine – in-line 6-cylinder.
GAZ Group presented at once ten premières at COMTRANS`17 motor show.That is the record number throughout the show history. All in all the company presented 24 motor vehicle models. The company unveiled «heavy-duty» modifications of vehicles GAZelle NEXT 4,6 and GAZon NEXT 10 with increased payload. In the heavy duty truck segment the Ural on-road truck with 6x4 wheel arrangement became the main surprise. It is meant to be used in municipal services, on construction sites and on highways. Right hand drive Ural NEXT for delivery to countries with left-hand traffic was presented. The main novelties of the bus model range of GAZ Group were the following ones: tourist coach Cruise with automated driver assist system. The coaсh was developed specifically for 2018 FIFA World CUP; the bus Vector NEXT in «accessible environment» modification; budget semilow-floor model of the new medium-size bus «Kursor». The models of off-road vehicles were the amphibian vehicle Sobol, the expedition vehicle and the pick-up Vepr NEXT. The vehicles became the central show-pieces of the stand. The guests of the show also assessed the advanced models of GAZ Group electrobuses.
SCANIA RUS specially presented a new innovative solution which has been developed for more than 10 years - Scania Next Generation.
Scania placed 7 models at its stand among which there were 3 new generation truck tractors: S730 A4X2NA, R500 A4X2NA, G410 A6x2/4NB. Trucks were presented with 3 cab types: basic G, enhanced comfort cab R and flagship cab S with level floor. The new cabs have improved aerodynamic properties which facilitates decrease in fuel consumption and aerodynamic noise level. Apart from new generation vehicles, new items of the current model range were presented at the stand: truck tractor G480 CA6X6 EHZ, multipurpose road maintenance vehicle (KRV) P400 CB6x4HHZ with a deicing agent distributor, tourist coach Scania Touring 4x2 and а tractor unit G340 LA4x2 HNA with CNG-fueled engine.
МАN Truck & Bus RUS presented a range of effective and modern MAN brand trucks. Russian visitors were the first in the world to see a première of the new tourist coach MAN Lion`s Coach distinguished by high efficiency, LED lights, improved aerodynamic properties and new design. The following vehicles were also presented at the stand: the unique truck on the MAN TGS chassis designed specifically for the distribution segment; two-axle tractor unit MAN TGS 19.440 4x2 BLS-WW with L cab, which was presented in a special configuration for transport of dangerous cargo; exclusive MAN TGX 18.640 4×2 LLS in Performance Line Edition configuration.
ISUZU RUS stand exhibited both flagship models and a novelty for Russian market— the modified chassis Isuzu with gas engine. The stand visitors saw a tractor unit on the chassis Isuzu GIGA, the pickup Isuzu D-Max in the configuration Arctic Truck designed for harsh climatic operating conditions, Isuzu FORWARD 18.0 LONG with a van-refrigerator and a hydraulic tail-lift, an all-wheel drive vehicle on the Isuzu NMS85 chassis, and the chassis Isuzu NPR82/CNG with gas engine which was not previously available in Russia.
At the Volvo Trucks stand the visitors saw 7 Volvo trucks at a time. There were the stars of the highway horizon: truck tractor Volvo FH Viking, Volvo FH Ocean Race, 500 h.p. truck tractor Volvo FH 6x2. Also there were the heroes of construction sites: Volvo FMX 8x4 Tridem with a dump body Wielton Konisch, Volvo FMX 6x6 with reinforced dump body Meiller, Volvo FM 6x4.
AVTOVAZ for the first time took part in the international show COMTRANS`17. The most sought-after commercial vehicles were presented at the stand: LADA Largus Van, LADA 4x4 Pickup and LADA Granta Pickup, adapted for solving different economic tasks. The stand novelty was an advanced modification LADA Vesta for corporate clients - LADA Vesta CNG which entered the Russian market in July 2017. The dual-fuel vehicle can be filled both with gasoline and natural gas methane.
The FORD stand exhibited the first «connected» Ford Transit in Russia with the telemetric service Ford Telematics of in-house design. For the first time the leader of the LCV segment in Russia will be available as an integrated business-solution permitting on-line analysis of the efficiency of commercial vehicle use. Ford commercial vehicles were presented at the show by 5 sub-models of the Ford Transit and by Ford Tourneo Custom minibus. Visitors saw a cargo van, a combi-version van configuration with double cab, an enhanced comfort tourist coach with 17 seats, an ambulance and an insulated van on the base of Ford Transit. Ford trucks were presented by a new model range which will be produced in Russia too, among other countries. Among them there are the 1848Т truck tractor, 3542D dump truck and a brand new vehicle in the Ford model range – 6Х4 3542Т truck tractor.
At the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles stand the official première of the new Volkswagen Crafter took place. The novelty is equipped with two-liter diesel engines of the EA211 family with six-speed manual gearbox and optional all-wheel drive system 4Motion. Also at the stand of more than 1.200 sq m area the brand presented 10 special purpose vehicles:
The medical service vehicle Caddy Ambulance, the refrigerator truck Caddy Refrigerator, the Crafter 35 Mobile Service Unit destined for transport of personnel and maintenance equipment for servicing vehicles in the field environment and also the wholeT6 range.
On the last day of COMTRANS - 9 September the Family Day took place during which the visitors – specialists of the motor transport industry were able to not only attend the exposition but also to acquaint their little family members with the show. The manufacturers arranged entertainment events and contests for kids. Also young drivers and designers could have a seat at the wheel of real trucks and buses. While the parents dealt with their business matters (the Saturday attendance by dedicated visitors increased by 39% versus the 2015 year figure), children enjoyed the event.

The organizers of the Moscow Commercial Vehicle Summit were ITEMF Expo and the Association of European Businesses.
The first day of the event dedicated to cargo transport - Cargo Vehicles Day–was started off by opening speech delivered by Sergei Kogogin, the Chairman of Council of the Association of Russian Automakers and Director General of PAO KAMAZ, who noted that commercial transport has strategically important function in our life and that the issues of technology and comfort of transportation are of top priority. Also the Summit participants were greeted by Dr. Frank Schauff, CEO of the Association of European Businesses, and Michael Johannes, Vice President of Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH, Brand-Manager Automechanika.
The Summit’s second day was dedicated to passenger and up to 6-ton GVW light-duty commercial transport «Passenger Vehicles Day».
It should be noted that more than 190 persons participated in the first Commercial Vehicle Summit.

Traditionally within the framework of the COMTRANS show, the 17th reward ceremony «The Best Commercial Vehicle of the Year in Russia» took place which is one of the most respected vehicle contests in Russia. The founder of the reward, its permanent presenter and chief editor of KomTrans journal Alexander Solntsev kept an eye on impartiality and fairness of finalist selection. The best journalists of reputable and independent automotive mass media for 16 years already decide the winners among domestic and foreign makers of trucks, buses and vans. Since 2017 the list of nominations was added with two more ones:
«Trailer of the Year» and «Person of the year». This year was especially full of surprises for all contestants. Aside from new added nominations, the prize winner in Automotive Industry Legend nomination was greeted by the Soviet and Russian hockey player, Olympic champion, World champion, the winner of the Canada Cup and Stanley Cup Igor Larionov.
